Course Description

The relationship between law and development has been a central concern of policy makers, lawyers and scholars throughout the last century. Since 1945 the international community and international organisations such as the World Bank, the IMF, and the WTO, have promoted economic development as an end in itself often turning to law to achieve this goal. In more recent years while the language has changed to one of globalisation and good governance the aim of development has remained central to the process, but what exactly does development mean and to what extent have the lives of billions of people improved?
