Course Description

The MSc Electromagnetic Sensor Networks programmes are strongly linked to vibrant research in radar, security and communications systems in the Microwave Integrated Systems Lab (MISL) within the School of Electronic, Electrical and Computer Engineering. Typically, sensor networks involve a number of sensors (acoustic, seismic, etc) maintained on communication and processing platforms (nodes). In MISL research, sensor information can be generated purely through the analysis of distortion in communication channels between the nodes. These signals enable objects to be recognised, classified and even reconstructed as silhouettes. Research activity on the fundamentals of networks, including dynamic and ad-hoc networks, also contributes strongly to this programme. The programme is designed to provide opportunities to learn important fundamentals and to carry out a research related project under the supervision of staff who undertake internationally leading research in these rapidly developing areas. They provide excellent starting points for further research or for employment with innovative technology companies. The programme provides specialist study in a wide range of topics that are available for study full-time and part-time. Each degree programme provides a coherent stream of study, which can be tailored to individual needs by the selection of appropriate options.
