Course Description

The Prosthodontics (Advanced Training) MClinDent is a three calendar year full-time programme designed to enable applicants from outside the European Union to meet Specialist Training requirements where three years of study is needed. The programme is broad-based and progressive, and comprises theoretical instruction, practical work and personal research. What and how will I learn? Students gain practical experience in advanced conservation, fixed (conventionally prepared and resin-retained designs) and removable prosthodontics, and implant-supported prostheses for single missing teeth or partially edentulous cases, alongside an introduction to occlusal registration techniques and the range of diagnostic procedures required to ensure effective planning and design of oral reconstructions. Degree Structure Students undertake courses to the value of 360 credits. Year One: Core courses (165 credits). Year Two: Core courses (105 credits), dissertation (90 credits). Year Three: Clinical study (not credit bearing). Core Modules CORE COURSES INCLUDE: Clinical Science and Principles of Treatment Fundamentals of Fixed and Implant Prosthodontics Fundamentals of Removable Prosthodontics Prosthodontic Treatment Planning and Functional Occlusion Prosthodontic Clinical and Laboratory Care Interdisciplinary Aspects Of Restorative Treatment Prosthodontic Operative Dentistry & Endodontic Skills Dissertationreport All students undertake an independent research project which culminates in a dissertation of approximately 13,000-15,000 words. Options All courses are compulsory. Assessment is through mock written and practical examination, essays, internal graduate appraisal, supervised clinical work, oral presentation and the dissertation. Your future career This programme offers dental professionals the opportunity to extend their knowledge of Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics in order to prepare them for a career in specialist practice, the hospital or community services, industrial dental practice or an academic career in the field. Entry Requirements All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification and have a minimum of two years clinical experience. All candidates wishing to train on a programme leading to a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) must have a minimum of two years of post-graduate experience working as a registered dentist and be eligible for full registration with the General Dental Council. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that the candidate provides appropriate written confirmation and attaches this to their application. Applicants who do not provide this confirmation will not be put forward for shortlisting. Acceptance on a programme leading to a CCST must be via competitive entry, subject to the ratification of the Dean of Postgraduate Dentistry. Trainees apply for entry to specialist training

 

Entry Requirements

All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification and have a minimum of two years' clinical experience post-qualification.
