AIMS This programme prepares candidates for doctoral degrees and provides research training and interdisciplinary insights into the study of applied linguistics according to the Economic and Social Research Council?s (ESRC) postgraduate training guidelines. PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION You take modules to a total value of 180 credits. These include: 60 credits of generic social science research training 60 credits of discipline-specific training (including bilingualism and bilingual education, language and cross-cultural communication, discourse analysis, TESOL, language acquisition, computer assisted language learning, conversation analysis) and a 60-credit research project. Assessment is by course work associated with each of the taught modular courses, including short class tests and submitted work. The research project comprises a portfolio of critical reviews of literature, case reports, pilot experiments or draft conferencejournal articles or a dissertation.
