Course Description

This extremely popular and professional programme considers marketing from the perspective of the entrepreneurial company as well as the multi-national corporation. The programme provides an integrated study of the theory and practice of effective and successful strategic marketing management. Through this specialised programme we prepare you for interesting and varied careers as marketing executives and managers. We look at marketing at local, national, European and global levels developing skills in strategic analysis, problem-solving and decision making. Special features: We provide a residential trip to a UK city where our students experience first-hand the decision-making process taken by marketing directors. All travel and hotel costs are included in the course fees. We offer a regular programme of guest lectures by prominent speakers on key issues in business and marketing. Programme Content: This course covers a broad range of marketing-related issues, concepts, and theories. You also have the choice to develop your knowledge and skills in particular specialised areas of marketing. You will learn how to deal with complex issues in a dynamic business environment. You will study marketing strategy as a key business tool, including an analysis of the core components of marketing management, such as marketing communications, market research, consumer behaviour and productbrand management. Modules Strategic Marketing Management You will focus on the development and implementation of marketing strategies to help organisations gain a competitive advantage in a highly volatile operating environment. You will critically evaluate and make appropriate use of information from a variety of sources to inform decision making and the development of marketing strategy. You will critically select analytical tools and techniques appropriate to an organisation s strategic aims and objectives and develop an appreciation of ethical issues and their impact on the strategic choices. You will develop and critically evaluate the feasibility of alternative strategy options and justify a range of viable solutions. Marketing Research You will demonstrate advanced critical thinking skills in a diverse range of marketing-related issues and appreciate the role of complexity, uncertainty and sometimes incomplete nature of information in advanced market research planning and strategy formulation. You will develop the ability to evaluate and interpret market intelligence reports, prepare market research proposals and critically analyse both primary and secondary data. You will be required to use relevant statistical programmes to generate and present a range of solutions, demonstrating logical consistency and adequacy of conclusions supported by data. You will prepare a market research report in order to assist decision-making and strategy development for real-world marketing issues. Managing and Marketing Events You will develop an understanding of a range of issues related to the theory and practice of events marketing. You will consider events in the field of sport, film, as well as arts and culture. You will look at a range of communication approaches for specific cultural events and develop, manage and advertise a pop-up event. You will be required to undertake primary and secondary research and apply these methods accordingly for problem recognition and problem solving. At the end of the module, you will be able to demonstrate what you have learnt by designing effective event brand communication strategies which reach desired target audiences in the leisure market. Dissertation You will be required to demonstrate an advanced understanding of relevant marketing concepts and theories and critically evaluate their relevance to real-world application, by independently undertaking research and writing a dissertation relating to your chosen area of marketing. Entry Requirements

Normally a second class honours degree or above in any discipline, or overseas equivalent qualification. We also consider applicants without a degree who have extensive minimum three years managerial experience in sales or marketing.
